Tributes are pouring in from Western allies following the death of President Idriss Deby’s death.
France described him as a courageous friend and a great soldier.
Western powers considered Debby a dependable ally and would want Chadian forces to continue to play that role.
Deby’s death could have more drastic implications for security in the Sahel and the Lake Chad region.
Chad is one of the top troop contributors to the fight against armed groups in the region.
