Two People Killed As Opposition Protests In Kenya Turn Violent

Published
At least two people were killed and several others injured after opposition protests in Western Kenya turned violent. The police in the Western city of Kisumu where the two died were said to have been overpowered by the protesters. The protests in other parts of the country went on without any violence. Police in Kisumu were forced to use teargas with some protesters alleging live bullets were also used. As yet there has still not been any official comment from authorities on the victims. The opposition is demanding the resignation of all electoral commissioners ahead of the 2017 general elections. It is now warning the government of more protests every Monday and Thursday if talks do not begin.
