Chad protests turn deadly as demonstrators demand civilian rule

Published
At least five people have been killed in Chad as protesters demanded a return to civilian governance after the military took over following President Idriss Deby’s death last week.
The army installed President Idriss Deby's son as the country's new leader last week after his father was killed during fighting with rebels.
Mahamat Idriss Deby will head an 18-month transition government until elections are held.
