One of Advocates Nicolette Bell, Adrian Mopp, Andrea Johnson, Xolisile Khanyile, Hermione Cronje or Menzi Simelane will likely be the country's next National Director of Public Prosecutions. The six candidates were quizzed over two days this week, as an advisory panel sought to gauge their fitness and propriety to become the country's top prosecutor. Utlimately, the decision will be the President's, as dicated by the law. The interviews were not without drama. Ghosts from the past returned to haunt some of the candidates such as Advocate Andrea Johnson's decision in 2007, to participate in the job interview panel, before which her husband was a canidate for a job, and Advocate Menzi Simelane's controversial role during the Ginwala inquiry - which ultimately cost him his job as NDPP, the same job he is now applying for.
