The late Mbongeni Skhakhane - KwaZulu-Natal chairperson of the African Farmers Association of South Africa - who was gunned down on his farm near Pietermaritzburg last week, was committed to helping small-scale farmers succeed.

This sentiment was expressed by Secretary-general of the association Dornathus Dlamini at a memorial service for Skhakhane.

Skhakhane's death is said to be a great loss to the farming sector, as he was also instrumental in securing farming equipment from government for small-scale farmers.
