The ANC will hold its 5th National General Council from Monday at the Birchwood Hotel and Conference Centre, Ekurhuleni.

NGCs are held midway between party national conferences and are convened to discuss and debate strategic organisational and political issues facing the movement, such as the ANC's electoral decline ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections.

One of the main purposes of the NGC is policy formulation for the next conference, to be held in 2027.

The council is not an elective conference but is seen as the main starting point for any kind of lobbying with the party.
