The Cape Winelands District Municipality in the Western Cape says mopping up operations continue while a fire at Wemmershoek near Franschhoek remains active, with ground crews monitoring the blaze.

Fire Chief, Jaco Thuynsma says the fire, that started in the Langrug Informal Settlement last week, flared up in some areas, requiring aerial support overnight.

Over 17,000 hectares of vegetation stretching over 50 kilometres have been burnt.
