The Cape Winelands District Municipality says mopping up operations continue while a fire at Wemmershoek near Franschhoek remains active with ground crews monitoring the blaze.

Fire Chief, Jaco Thuynsma, says the fire, that started in Langrug Informal Settlement last week, flare-up in some areas requiring aerial support.

Over 17-thousand hectares of vegetation stretching over 50 kilometres have been burnt.
