The Cape Winelands District Municipality says the fire in the Wemmershoek area near Franschhoek is under control. The fire originated in the Langrug Informal Settlement last week. Authorities briefed the media on the extent of intervention by dedicated teams to save property and lives.
17 thousand hectares of vegetation burnt down covering over 50 kilometers.
There has also been limited extent of damage to property and infrastructure.
Mopping up operations have also gotten underway.
