Residents in Bekkersdal have expressed dissatisfaction after being chased out of the Westonaria Magistrate's Court, west of Johannesburg, today, due to concerns that their presence might jeopardize the matter. This comes amid the appearance in court of eleven people, including ten alleged illegal miners after being found in possession of illegal firearms and ammunition by the police. The accused are not yet linked to the mass shooting that occurred at Kwa Noxolo tarven which claimed nine lives and left ten others wounded. Bekkersdal residents lament the proliferation of guns in the area due to illegal mining and have called on government to combat the scourge of gun-related crimes.
