Acting Police Minister Professor Firoz Cachalia and North West Premier Lazarus Mokgosi are visiting the Bapo ba Mogale Traditional Authority following a surge in illegal mining in Bapong village near Brits.

They are meeting Kgosi Andrew Nkoana Mogale and the traditional council as part of efforts to stop illicit mining.

Police have arrested 21 suspected illegal miners and seized heavy machinery.
