Congo heading to polls as Nguesso seeks to extend 36-year reign

Voters in the Republic of Congo will head to the polls on Sunday to elect a president in a vote boycotted by the country’s leading opposition party.
The Catholic Church has raised questions about the fairness of the vote, after the government rejected its request to deploy more than a thousand election observers.
President Denis Sassou Nguesso, who has governed the oil-producing country of five million people for 36 years, is seeking a new five-year mandate.

Al Jazeera's Malcolm Webb reports from the capital, Brazzaville.
