President Cyril Ramaphosa says he is confident that he made the right decision in appointing Advocate Andy Mothibi as South Africa's new National Director of Public Prosecutions.
The Presidency confirmed the appointment on Monday evening, with Mothibi set to officially assume his duties on 1 February, following the end of Advocate Shamila Batohi's term.
Ramaphosa exercised his constitutional prerogative in appointing the former Special Investigating Unit head, despite Mothibi not being among the six candidates shortlisted and interviewed by the NDPP Advisory Panel last month.
Meanwhile, the President has praised outgoing NDPP Advocate Shamila Batohi for her service, describing her seven year tenure as significant, particularly in efforts to rebuild the NPA and restore public confidence in the justice system.
