The use of mobile devices while driving; and passengers using cellphones for content is a major concern in South Africa.

According to research done by Discovery Insure, speeding is no longer the leading cause of road accidents – cellphone use is.

Data from the study shows that an estimated 25% of crashes are due to drivers using cellphones while driving. During the ongoing festive season road safety campaign,

Deputy Transport Minister Mkhuleko Hlengwa cautioned against filming social media content while you are behind the wheel.

SABC News reporter, Nonhlakanipho Magwaza spoke to Hlengwa as part of a traffic law enforcement operation along the Mooi River Toll Plaza on the N3 earlier this week.
