The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) has kicked-off wage negotiations at Eskom with a 15 percent salary demand for its members.
Other demands include housing benefit of R7000 a month and the company's medical aid contribution of 80%.

The current 7% multiyear agreement comes to an end in June next year. The union has signaled that talks could be complicated by Eskom changes to collective bargaining after the entity was unbundled into three divisions.

Trade union solidarity has also raised the same concern with the union calling for a 10% or CPI plus 4% increase for their members.
