In Ethiopia, a local election has taken place in the Tigray region, against the orders of the country's federal government.
Tigray officials, holding polls for the 190-seat regional parliament, warned that any intervention by the federal government would amount to a "declaration of war".
It is feared the vote could increase political tensions and even threaten the country's unity

Al Jazeera’s Malcolm Webb reports.
