Eufrasia Tells Her Story From Cabo Delgado, Mozambique

Published
"I went to pick up my niece from the hospital. My sister-in-law had to go in with my nephew because he had malaria and my niece, the moment she saw me, hugged me and shouted: Auntie, I was very scared, I thought I would never see you again, I must not go back to that place.

I told her: - you are not going back.

Don't leave me, Auntie, promise me. - I promise you won't go back.

And I asked her: - Why are you barefoot?

Auntie, did we have time to get slippers? I didn't have time, the only thing I wanted was to leave this place. You see, nobody has slippers, nobody has anything, we just brought our clothes."
