As the festive season draws to a close, locals and holidaymakers in Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape are flocking to the beaches to make the most of a hot and sunny New Year's Day.

A gentle breeze may cool things off a little, but families and friends are soaking up the sun - reflecting on the year that's passed and easing into the one ahead.
