Northern Cape Health MEC Maruping Lekwene has resigned, as political parties in the province called for the department to be placed under administration. Speculation of his resignation became rife last week. Northern Cape Premier, Dr Zamani Saul, has confirmed the resignation. Lekwene leaves the department under a cloud, with a recently released Health Ombudsman report showing several failures and the Auditor General exposing financial irregularities.
