Officials forced to open all boom gates at Verkeerdevlei Toll in Bloemfontein

Traffic volumes peaked on the N1 passing through Bloemfontein as holiday makers are returning after festive holidays.

There were delays at the Verkeerdevlei toll plaza due to the traffic congestion.

Officials at the Toll Plaza were forced to open all the boom gates for vehicles heading north on the N1 for five minutes.

To allow motorists to pass through without paying.

This was aimed at easing traffic congestion which had piled up for more than five kilometers.
