South Africa joined a majority of member states voting in favour of a draft resolution demanding the Russian Federation return all Ukrainian children forcibly transferred or deported during the ongoing conflict.
The draft was adopted with 91 votes in favour, 12 against and 57 abstentions.
Ambassador Mathu Joyini said South Africa unequivocally regretted the displacement of children during times of conflict and, in the current context, call on all sides to this conflict to refrain from actions that displaced and abused children in violation of international law and international humanitarian law.
