The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has forecast above-normal rainfall across most parts of the country this summer.
Rainfall is expected on Christmas Day, continuing into the new year.
Scientists and forecasters have attributed this to the ongoing La Niña weather phenomenon which heightens the risk of heavy downpours leading to localised flooding.
This emerged during a media brieding by the SA Weather Service in Pretoria today (Thursday).
