The Socio-Economic Rights Institute of South Africa has taken the City of Johannesburg to the High Court over the recent removal of informal traders from various parts of the city. This follows the municipality's clean-up and by-law enforcement drive, which includes a new registration system aimed at regulating more than 20,000 informal traders. As part of the operation, officials have been removing those trading without permits or outside approved areas. But SERI's Edward Molopi says the traders believe their rights are being violated. For more on this story, we now cross to SABC News reporter Lopang Alamu, who joins us from Johannesburg High court.
