Some traditional leaders are bemoaning the entrance of money, opulence and alcohol into initiation rituals and celebrations meant to transition youth into adulthood. They say the result of this is a shift from cultural values to a formalised spectacle of excess and material displays. Chief Jongisilo Pokwana Menziwa is one of the leaders who has expressed concern.
