The mayor of the uMngeni Local Municipality in Howick, Chris Pappas intends to take legal action after he says he was cleared of wrongdoing by the Public Protector. Pappas faced allegations of nepotism and corruption in connection with funding that the municipality made a available to a tourism organisation led by his former partner in 2022. Pappas says a report that the municipality received from the Public Protector's office, finds that the allegations were unsubstantiated. The Public Protector has not yet published a final report.
