Wildfires in South Africa: Thabile Nkunjana discusses impact, costs

Earlier this morning, we had reports that the fires in the Kouga region of the Eastern Cape are under control.

Forty firefighters were dispatched to Oyster Bay area where they managed a fire and prevented it from spreading.

The Kouga mayor, Hattingh Bornman, says any hotspots in the Kabeljouws area will also be doused.

Calm winds are predicted for the day.

Thabile Nkunjana, Economist at the National Marketing Agricultural Marketing Council, discusses the impact of the fires on agriculture from an economic perspective.
