A suspect arrested in connection with the murder of five people at a tavern in Zithobeni, Bronkhorstspruit, early in October has abandoned his bail application.

Six other people were wounded when two suspects allegedly entered the tavern and demanded that one of the patrons hand over his firearm, after which the shooting ensued.

The matter has been postponed to 13 January 2026 for further investigations.

Gauteng NPA Spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana says another suspect has been arrested and charged with possession of an illegal firearm.

Makhanja says they are still waiting for a ballistic report before they can link him to the offence.
