Security concerns raised by private investigator Paul O'Sullivan and businessman Brown Mogotsi have sparked a sharp debate around virtual testimony before the Ad Hoc Committee, looking into concerns around national security.

The committee is investigating allegations of criminal infiltration, corruption and political interference in the justice and criminal system made by Kwa-Zulu Natal Police Commissioner Lt-General Nhlanha Mkhwanazi last year.

The two requested to testify via a virtual platfrom, but the committee turned down the request, instisting on in-person testimony.

At least one crime and security expert warns that virtual testimony risks weakening scrutiny and cross-examination.
