Mpumalanga authorities have urged community members to allow contractors to work on infrastructure projects. This comes after community members tried to stop a contractor opening a bypass following the collapse of a bridge in Thekwane, outside Mbombela.

At least six bridges and a number of roads have been damaged by persistent rain since December. More rain is predicted for the province throughout the week.
