Madlanga Commission | Mashazi admits bypassing EMPD chief in appointments

Retired Ekurhuleni City Manager, Dr Imogen Mashazi, has confirmed before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry that she did not consult Ekurhuleni Metro Police Chief Jabulani Mapiyeye, when approving the appointments of senior council officials, including high ranking EMPD officers.

Mashazi testified that the appointments were conferred by Deputy Commissioner Julius Mkhwanazi earlier this year.

Mapiyeye objected to the process, warning Mashazi that the appointments might contravene provisions of the SAPS Act.
