Minstrel organisation, the Cape Town Minstrel Carnival Association, is holding a protest parade through the streets of Cape Town.
This after the Western Cape High Court ruled in favour of the organisation against the city of Cape Town.

The court issue relates to the availability of a venue for minstrel competitions held in January after the official street parade.
The long standing tradition of competitions is held to crown the best minstrel troup. The court ordered the city to make available an alternative and suitable venue.

The organisation is seperate from the main organising body, the Kaapse Klopse Karnival Association, which arranged for the official Minstrel Parade to be held on Monday.

After consultations with experts, the Kaapse Klopse Karnival Association adjusted the route to meander through Green Point as was done historically.
Today's protest parade, with troups in full Klopse regalia, represents a smaller fraternity. It's organisers say their teams will NOT participate in Monday's main event, where more than 20-thousand minstrels will showcase their talents in a street parade that is free to the public.
