The Mpumalanga Department of Education says it is confident that the 2026 academic year will begin without major disruptions, despite the damage caused by recent heavy rains, hail and strong winds. At least 28 schools across the province were affected by the storms. Almost 10 000 learners are still awaiting placement. This was revealed by Education MEC Lindi Masina during the launch of the Back to School Campaign in Marite, Bushbuckridge. The campaign aims to mobilise communities to prepare schools ahead of reopening to ensure that teaching and learning begin on the first day.
