The National Student Financial Aid Scheme has confirmed that it has received close to nine hundred thousand applications for funding from students across the country. Over 700 000 were first-time applicants. About 600 000 applications have already been approved, while 49 000 have been rejected. NSFAS officials briefed the media in Pretoria on the scheme's readiness to provide funding to eligible students ahead of the 2026 academic year.
