The Western Cape government is preparing a proposal to Cabinet, to declare the province a disaster area, following the devastating wildfires and escalating water shortages.

Meanwhile, the Knysna Municipality is making an urgent appeal to residents to drastically reduce water consumption to 50 litres of water per person per day.

This as the town only has about ten days of usable water left, with the local Akkerkloof Dam on 15%.

Authorities say they are doing everything possible to avoid getting to Day Zero.
