Across Africa, the journey to adulthood can come at a dangerous cost. From deadly initiation rituals in South Africa to girls in Kenya rejecting FGM, young people are increasingly questioning traditions that have shaped generations. In Kampala, youths from across the continent ask one powerful question: What do you have to do to truly belong? We meet boys facing brutal initiations, Maasai girls choosing alternative rites of passage, and Miss World Somalia 2025, Zainab Jama, who survived FGM and is now turning her pain into purpose to fight the practice.
