Executive Mayor of the City of Ekurhuleni, Nkosindiphile Xhakaza says the revelations at the Madlanga Commission have helped the city fast-track disciplinary action against those accused of wrongdoing. Xhakaza says the city will act decisively, without fear or favour, and assured residents that the city is addressing the rot that has been exposed.

Minister of Basic Education, Siviwe Gwarube says the 30% matric pass mark is a myth. The National Assembly rejected a motion by Build One South Africa leader, Mmusi Maimane, to scrap the 30 percent pass level for matriculants. Gwarube says the focus should be on the quality of education at all levels, and it is populist for politicians to argue for a change in the pass mark. Gwarube says politicians shouldn't be the ones deciding on the pass mark, but experts.
