2025 has proved to be a challenging year for the Judicial Commission to determine whether attempts were made to prevent the investigation and prosecution of apartheid-era crimes.

Established at the end of May 2025, the commission, chaired by Former Constitutional Court Judge Sisi Khampepe, has been embroiled in legal and administrative technicalities, resulting in no cases being heard and an extension of a further six months.
