The Western Cape High Court has ruled that the province's learner admissions system unfairly discriminates against Black and marginalised students. Equal Education and the Equal Education Law Centre had asked the court to declare the department's failure to plan and place late applicants on time unconstitutional and a violation of their rights. The court has ordered the department to produce a revised admissions plan aligned with learners' rights within six months. The Western Cape Education Department says it is studying the ruling.
