UN: Thousands Flee Homes Amid Renewed Fighting In Central African Republic

Published
The agency said in a statement that the displaced people seek shelter inside the United Nations peacekeeping base. Fresh waves of violence in the Central African Republic began on August 20, after the Christian anti-Balaka militants beheaded a Muslim teenager and wounded another. That prompted a retaliatory attack by a group of young Muslims, with the help of militants from the Seleka group. So far, at least 10 people have been killed and many others have been injured. The Central African Republic has been gripped by deadly unrest since 20-13 when Christian armed groups launched coordinated attacks against the Muslim community.
